Partners is a groundbreaking leadership training program designed for adults with developmental disabilities and parents of children with developmental disabilities. With a dual focus on equipping participants with essential competencies and fostering a supportive network of advocates, Partners aims to empower individuals to influence public policy effectively. This innovative program offers a comprehensive curriculum delivered through a series of online facilitated Zoom sessions, culminating in an immersive in-person conference-style session.

Program Structure

The program comprises five online facilitated Zoom sessions conducted between February and early June 2024. Prior to each session, participants will engage with the online Partners in Policymaking course, which serves as the foundational material for the facilitated sessions. The curriculum covers best practices, essential competencies, and strategies for effective advocacy in the realm of public policy.

Cohorts and Accessibility

Partners recognizes the diverse linguistic needs of its participants and offers two distinct cohorts: one conducted in English/ASL and the other in Spanish/Bilingual, with interpreters available for support. This commitment to accessibility ensures that all participants can fully engage with the program content in their preferred language.

Schedule and Logistics

Online facilitated Zoom sessions will take place on weekday evenings from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The specific days will be determined based on a survey of participants to identify the most convenient timing for all involved.

The program culminates in an enriching in-person conference-style session, scheduled to take place from 3:00 pm on Friday, June 14, 2024, to 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 16, 2024. The venue for this culminating session is the Sonata Hotel in Irvine, CA, conveniently located across from the airport.
