Inland Regional Center reached an exciting milestone with the launch of our very first Self-Determination Program (SDP) Lunch & Learn—a dynamic and engaging event designed to deepen staff understanding and strengthen our shared commitment to self-determination.

With more than 200 IRC employees in attendance, the event demonstrated the growing interest and dedication across our organization to expanding person-centered practices and empowering the individuals and families we serve.

Bringing Voices Together

At the heart of the event was a powerful expert panel discussion, which brought together diverse perspectives from across the SDP community. Panelists included representatives from Financial Management Services (FMS), the Developmental Services Ombudsperson’s Office, Independent Facilitators, IRC’s SDP Local Volunteer Advisory Committee, as well as Self-Determination participants and parents.

Together, they offered both professional expertise and lived experience—creating a meaningful space for learning, reflection, and conversation.

“The Self-Determination Program is about giving individuals and families the freedom to design services that truly reflect their needs and goals,” shared one panelist. “Events like this help bring that vision to life.”

Staff had the opportunity to ask questions, hear real-world examples, and better understand how SDP works in practice.

A Strong Foundation of Collaboration

This event was truly a collective effort, made possible through the collaboration of internal teams and community partners who are deeply committed to advancing self-determination.

Capturing the Moment

The energy of the day was reflected not only in conversation, but in connection. Photos from the event highlighted the collaboration between teams, partners, and leadership—including standout moments featuring the SDP team and participating sponsors.

Looking Ahead

The success of this first Lunch & Learn marks just the beginning. As IRC continues to expand its efforts around self-determination, opportunities like this will play a critical role in building knowledge, strengthening partnerships, and supporting meaningful outcomes.

“This is just the start,” one attendee noted. “We’re building something really impactful for the future of the people we serve.”

Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, and helped make this event a success.
