Community EngagementBlog, Employees

Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes

Each month, IRC staffers are nominated by their colleagues in our Employee Recognition program. This month we are celebrating Lilliana Garnica and Devin Morris!

November 2018 – Hercules Award

Lilliana Garnica is IRC’s Diversity Outreach Coordinator. She is known for her dedication to IRC Consumers and families. She works with our staff, Consumers, families and community agencies to ensure our Consumers understand the services available to them through the regional center. This is what her colleagues had to say about her, “Lilliana is an unsung hero of IRC. Her work requires so much from her, from community outreach to data analysis and more! Her passion is evident in everything she does.”

To get to know Lilliana a little better we asked her a few questions. Here’s a little of what she shared!

What do you like most about your work at IRC?

What I enjoy the most is the opportunity to empower families, particularly Consumer parents, by providing them with information and tools to become better advocates.  I also enjoy collecting and analyzing data on our service disparities.  The exciting part of this task is identifying positive change among our underserved populations.

What is your life like outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy reading and hiking.  Documentaries are my thing and I’ve become a fan of Netflix.  I like listening to cumbias, salsa, reggaeton and haven’t given up on learning how to dance Salsa someday.  I also like to travel! Last year I visited Washington and this year I went to Cancun.

Also, I’m a proud mama of a son who is a Freshman at Cal State San Marcos.  I’m also a proud “dance mom” who enjoys being involved in my daughter’s life as a ballet, tap, and jazz dancer.

How do you think this award reflects your personality and work at the agency?

I feel blessed with the opportunity to do what I do for a living.  I am passionate about my work.  When things get a bit strenuous, I see it as an opportunity to overcome a challenge and grow.

November 2018 – Positively Contagious Award

Devin Morris is a Consumer Service Coordinator (CSC) working with adult Consumers in the San Bernardino metro area. You might as well call Devin, “Mr. IRC.” He truly embodies the spirit of the agency, creating a fun and energetic environment wherever he goes!  His teammates shared these kind words about him, “Devin is the glue of our team. He helps hold us all together and builds our spirits daily. He demonstrates selflessness, positivity, and goes out of his way to help others.”

We wanted to learn a little more about Devin, so we asked him a few questions. Here’s what he told us!

What do you like most about your work at IRC?

I’m just shy of my 4th year here at IRC!  I enjoy helping my Consumers and seeing them improve over the years.  I also enjoy working with such great co-workers that are a pleasure to spend my day with.

What is your life like outside of work?

Outside of work I like to go fishing, golfing, and bowling.  I also enjoy reading Marvel Comics as well as watching the movies! I usually watch them via special premieres through 4 Color Fantasies comic book store in Rancho Cucamonga.  Most recently I’ve enjoyed spending time with my puppy Mace.

How do you think this award reflects your personality and work at the agency?

I have always tried to keep an upbeat attitude when it comes to life.  Life is too short to be unhappy and worry about the small things.

Congratulations Lilliana and Devin! You truly help make IRC a wonderful place to work.
