Inland Regional Center (IRC) is an awesome place to work! If you ask our staff, they will tell you time and time again that “the people” are what make IRC great. Our team is made up of more than 780 dedicated employees working to support people with developmental disabilities in the Inland Empire.

Each month, IRC staff nominate their outstanding colleagues in our Employee Recognition program. In this blog, we are highlighting the contributions of our May award winner Katherine Orozco.

Above and Beyond Award Winner – Katherine Orozco

Katherine Orozco is a Consumer Services Coordinator (CSC) in our Riverside Transition unit. Katherine is the recipient of the Above and Beyond Award in recognition of her thorough work and dedication to her clients! Here is what her colleagues had to say about her. “Working with Social Security’s appeals process is quite daunting; Katherine makes it look easy! She shows an attentiveness to her cases and we are grateful for her hard work in assisting us in securing benefits for her clients. She is a rock star and we enjoy working side-by-side with her to provide the best service to our clients.”

To get to know Katherine a little better, we asked her a few questions. Here is what she shared!

What do you like most about working at IRC?

What I like most about working at IRC is the support of my amazing team and program manager. This is my first official job in the career that I have chosen to pursue! My team at IRC, along with other IRC staff members, have made it very enjoyable. My position as a CSC allows me to work alongside young individuals and their families to provide them with appropriate services. I strive to present several possibilities in life because nothing is impossible. My IRC family, consumers, and their families are the ones who keep me motivated each and every day.

Tell us about your position and what a typical day might be like.

My job as a Consumer Service Coordinator varies. It is not always easy to describe a typical day because each day is different. Some days involve visiting the family/caregivers and the consumer, as well as prepping and completing reports, attending trainings, and much more. Overall, my responsibility as a CSC is to provide my consumers and families with helpful information and services that will give them hope and opportunities. I truly enjoy working for IRC it has been such an amazing opportunity.

How do you think this award reflects your personality and work here at the agency?

I am super thankful and blessed for this award. Even when I feel like I have not done my very best, my family, IRC colleagues, consumers, and their families prove to me otherwise. They are the ones that keep me going! My personality has always involved helping others and putting a smile on people’s faces. This job has let me express those attributes.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I love being surrounded by my amazing husband, my Frenchie Kardi D, family, and friends. And I can’t wait until I get to start my own family. I also enjoy spending a lot of my free time with my niece/god daughter. We enjoy watching makeup videos, going shopping, and Disney trips. Being surrounded by my family brings joy to my heart.

Tell us a fun fact about you!

I know I mentioned I love having Disney trips, but I am a very big fan of Disneyland. I have had my pass for about 12 years now and ‘til this day it has not gotten boring. I hope to visit every Disneyland in the world. So far I have only gone to two of them, Disneyland in Anaheim and Walt Disney World in Florida…so I have a few more to go!
